North Park Pool to Open After Memorial Day Weekend

The huge pool is a popular place to cool off for Ross and West View residents.

Allegheny County announced that North Park swimming pool will open for the season on Saturday, June 1, weather permitting.

The pool, once considered the largest in the world, is still empty but workers were seen Monday laboring in the building at the north end of the pool, which houses the filter and pumps.

North Park's swimming pool was built in the 1930's and holds 2 & 1/2 million gallons of water (compared to say 20-30,000 gallons in a modern city pool), according to the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh.
