North Hills School Board Moves Ahead on Middle School Air Conditioning Project

The project, which will include other renovations, is expected to last until Oct. 2015.

The North Hills School Board Monday night approved the appointment of Thomas and Williamson as project managers for the air conditioning project and associated upgrades at North Hills middle school and associated upgrades on the hilltop campus.

"Starting in April, we hope to begin updates to the middle school’s HVAC units and bring it in line with all other district buildings by installing air conditioning for our seventh and eighth-grade students, teachers and staff," Superintendent Dr. Patrick Mannarino told the board. "This project along with additional security updates, carpet replacement, roof repairs and middle and high school library updates is estimated to cost approximately $8 million."

Mannarino said the money to pay for the project is already in the bank.

"Unlike many districts nearby, we will not need to finance a bond or seek any outside funding to complete this project," he said. "Additionally, this project will not have a budgetary impact and will not require a tax increase."

The board hopes to award bids by March of 2014 with construction beginning in April 2014 and concluding by October of 2015.

In other action, the board also approved revisions to the 2013-14 calendar. The revisions include a full day of instruction for students on March 24, an Act 80 day for K-6 for parent conferences and a full day of instruction for secondary students onMarch 31 and a half day of instruction for all students and half instructional/half clerical day for staff on June 5.
