Ross Man Cashed Late Mother's Government Checks for Nearly 40 Years

Chauncey Clinton faces up to ten years in prison.

A Ross Township man pleaded guilty in federal court Wednesday to cashing his dead mother's social security checks for nearly decades.

Chauncey Clinton, 65, admitted he collected $304,853 in benefit payments designated for his mother, Clara Clinton, who died on May 7, 1973. He cashed the last check on in April, 2012.

He faces up to ten years in prison and fines of up to $250,000.

Judge Mark R. Hornak has scheduled Clinton's sentencing for January 23. He is free on bond until then.
